Pest Control in Phu My Hung: High-Rises and the Canal Network

Phu My Hung was built on low, wet ground in the south of the city, and the canal network running through it is part of the design rather than an accident. It is a well-run, green, planned area — and both of those facts have pest consequences that residents notice within a year of moving in.

Mosquitoes here are structural, not seasonal

Landscaped water, ornamental lakes and a canal system mean there is permanent breeding habitat inside the neighbourhood. This is not something an individual apartment can solve, and you should be sceptical of anyone who promises to. What a treatment can realistically do for one home is:

  • Treat your own balcony and any planters, saucers and drainage points on it — a surprising share of the mosquitoes biting you on a high floor bred on your own balcony, not in the canal.
  • Apply a residual treatment to balcony walls, railings and the underside of furniture, where mosquitoes rest between feeds.
  • Check window and door screens for tears and for gaps at the track — the most common single failure we find in Phu My Hung apartments.

How cockroaches reach a twentieth-floor apartment

Residents often assume height protects them. It does not. In a high-rise, cockroaches move vertically through the parts of the building nobody sees:

  • Plumbing risers. The shaft carrying water and waste pipes past every unit is continuous from the basement to the roof, warm and damp the whole way.
  • The rubbish chute and the refuse room. A chute that is not cleaned regularly feeds a permanent population at the bottom, and that population climbs.
  • Kitchen extract ducts and the gap behind fitted cabinets. These connect adjoining units more often than the floor plan suggests.
  • Deliveries. Cardboard boxes are the single most common way German cockroaches enter a clean apartment. Break boxes down outside and get them out of the unit the same day.

This is why treating one apartment while the neighbouring unit is untreated has limited effect, and why a serious cockroach problem in a tower is a building-level conversation as well as an apartment-level one. See what building management covers and what it does not.

Booking as a resident

Most Phu My Hung towers require contractors to register at the management office and to be escorted or signed in. Give us the tower name and your unit number when you book and we will do the registration. We also work outside office hours where the building allows it, which matters if you do not want to take a day off.
