Fly Control for Restaurants, Kitchens and Food Businesses in Ho Chi Minh City
Quick answer. Flies breed in rotting food, refuse and wet organic matter, so fly control starts with finding and removing the source. We then treat the places flies land and rest with a residual spray, and mist the area to reach flies in the air; for large outdoor areas we can use a thermal fogger. After a survey we may recommend fly lights for food areas, fitted only when you agree. Visits are monthly. Flies die slowly after treatment rather than dropping at once, and new ones keep arriving from outside, which is why the work is ongoing.
Which flies you have
- House flies: grey, about 7 mm, breed in refuse, food waste and animal droppings. The main fly in restaurants, markets and factories.
- Blow flies: larger, metallic green or blue, drawn to meat, fish and refuse bins. A sudden burst often means something has died or rotted nearby.
- Small flies in drains and fruit areas: fruit flies, drain flies and phorid flies are tiny and each breeds in a different place, from ripe fruit to the slime inside floor drains. Treating the wrong source does nothing, so we identify them first.
How we treat
- Find the source: refuse rooms, bins, grease traps, floor drains, food storage, wet corners and anything rotting outside the building.
- Remove or clean the source: we give you a list of what to clean, cover or move; spraying without this only kills adult flies for a few days.
- Residual spray on resting spots: walls, ceilings, window frames, around bins and doors, where flies land. Flies that land on the treated surface pick it up and die slowly.
- Misting: a fine mist over the area to reach flies in the air, with food, dishes and equipment covered first.
- Thermal fogging outdoors: for large yards, refuse areas and planting around factories, a thermal fogger reaches spaces a mister cannot.
- Fly lights: after the survey we suggest where fly lights would help, such as entrances to kitchens and packing areas, and how many for the floor area. They are fitted only when you agree.
Why monthly
Flies breed in about a week in warm weather and fly in from neighbouring markets, drains and refuse points. One treatment reduces the flies there on the day; a monthly programme keeps the sources checked and the numbers low.
For restaurants and food factories
Treatment in food areas is done at a time you set, usually after closing or during a shutdown. Each visit is recorded, and food businesses receive a service report, the fly light positions and a record of the areas treated for audits and inspections.
What you can do between visits
- Empty bins every day and keep lids closed; wash bins and the refuse area every week.
- Keep kitchen doors closed or fitted with strip curtains; do not prop them open.
- Clean floor drains and grease traps regularly; slime in drains is where small flies breed.
- Keep fruit and vegetables covered or chilled, and do not leave dirty cloths and mops wet overnight.
Common questions
Can you just spray and get rid of the flies?
Spraying alone kills the adults that are there. Unless the source is cleaned, new flies hatch within days.
Do fly lights replace spraying?
No. Fly lights catch flies that get inside and show where they come from, but the source and the resting spots still need treating.
How much does it cost?
Monthly programmes are priced by floor area and type of site. Starting prices are on the price list.
