Pest Control in District 7 Outside Phu My Hung

District 7 is not one place. Phu My Hung is a planned development with its own standards of drainage and waste handling; the rest of the district is ordinary Ho Chi Minh City — low-rise houses, older apartment blocks, small businesses at street level and open drainage canals. If you live outside the planned area, your pest problems look different from your friends inside it.

Open canals and street drainage

Outside the planned area, drainage canals are often open and slow-moving, and they carry organic waste. Two consequences follow, and both are worse in the rainy season:

  • Mosquitoes breed in the canal and in every container near it. Treatment that ignores the fifty metres around your building will not hold.
  • Rodents live in the canal banks and the street drainage system and come up through floor drains, gully traps and gaps around waste pipes. A grated drain does not stop a rat; a properly sealed one does.

Older apartment blocks

Blocks built before the current generation of towers often have shared open corridors, external waste chutes or communal bin areas at ground level, and plumbing that has been modified repeatedly. Cockroach populations in these buildings tend to be established rather than recent, which means a single treatment will reduce numbers but not end the problem. Expect to need a follow-up visit two to four weeks after the first, timed to catch the generation that hatched after the initial treatment.

Houses with a yard or a shopfront

If you rent a house here, the two things worth doing before any treatment are practical rather than chemical: clear the strip along the outside walls so there is nothing stacked against the building, and fit or repair the brush seal under the front shutter. Those two jobs remove the majority of ground-level entry routes, and they make whatever treatment follows last considerably longer.
